We’ve been invited to participate in National Work Experience Week (NWEW), the UK-wide initiative helping young people gain first-hand experience in their chosen fields.
Taking place from 24 – 28 April, NWEW combines expert advice with industry resources and live events. This year, we’re delighted to be getting involved to help students gain valuable hands-on knowledge and discover the pathways open to them.
What are the benefits of work experience?
From linking classroom learning to real-world situations to skills development, networking, and increased employability, work experience provides a pipeline to increased employment possibilities.
Government data shows that more than 80% of young people felt they were more attractive to employers following work experience or an employer-led placement. Moreover, 75% of those who undertook work experience said it provided them with new skills and confidence.
How is Franklin participating?
On Wednesday 26 April during lunchtime, we’ll be holding a promotional event in the foyer. We’ll host a range of local employers we closely work with – including Foresight and Forrester Boyd – to provide work experience opportunities to students.
Students will have the opportunity to speak to employers directly to find out what their opportunities entail, what skills they’ll develop, and how they can get involved.
As invitees to NWEW, students can also access live webinars. These fun and engaging online sessions offer the opportunity to quiz employers, hiring managers, and learners. Here’s a chance to ask the questions you want and get all the answers you need. See below for more:

National Careers activity
Our NWEW activity builds on our robust offering during National Careers Week. Back in March, we held two of our biggest events: our annual STEM conference and our Careers & Progression event. Both were focused around raising aspirations of our students, skills development, and career pathways. NWEW is a great way to go a step further. We’ll see you in the foyer.
