Healing Academy students celebrated as they were declared the winners of the Franklin Mock Trial Competition 2024. The team fought off tough competition at the highly anticipated event, going head-to-head with Franklin, Somercotes Academy, Healing School, and John Whitfgift Academy to take the much-coveted title.
Students took on the roles of barristers, witnesses, and court officials and were challenged to present compelling cases as either the prosecution or defence, with their performance judged by a prestigious panel, which included Josh Briggs, Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution Team at Wilkin Chapman Solicitors. Josh said: "It’s important at an early age to start thinking about different career paths, so for students to participate in something like this will help them understand where their skills and interests lie. The earlier they start to look at their future, the better. The confidence and skills students have shown today are very impressive."
The competition has become a highlight in the school calendar, capturing the enthusiasm of students considering a career within the legal profession. It provides them with a unique insight into how courts work, giving them a first-hand look at how cases are prepared, presented, and decided.
