Franklin STEM Conference 2025 sets new record as largest event to date

Our annual STEM conference has once again been a huge success, giving students an unforgettable insight into the fascinating world of careers in STEM. Now in its sixth year, the conference brought together 23 schools from across Greater Lincolnshire for the region's only STEM conference, igniting curiosity and inspiring the next generation of STEM innovators.

Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of incredible interactive workshops from leading employers and universities, such as the University of Lincoln, the University of Hull, Orsted, ORE Catapult and many more. The sessions covered everything from physiotherapy and medicine to renewables and engineering, giving students a hands-on taste of STEM.

Principal and CEO Wendy Ellis said:

"Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming 2,000 visitors to Franklin for our STEM Conference and Careers and Progression Event, which is fantastic and by far the largest in the region.

Students from 23 schools across Greater Lincolnshire joined us, alongside our students and 90 employers, apprenticeship providers, and universities, giving them access to expertise and specialist sessions they wouldn't typically experience in school.

They've taken part in some incredible workshops led by leading employers and universities, including RWE, Orsted, the University of Hull and many others. This event is all about inspiring students to explore their future, careers and opportunities in STEM while raising their aspirations, and we are excited to see how today's event will shape these students' futures in STEM."

Regan McPhee from Outwood Academy, Brumby attended the conference, taking part in the University of Lincoln Life Sciences workshop where he learnt all about jumping insects and grasshoppers, he said: "I didn't expect to be looking at grasshoppers and measuring how far they can jump! I was a bit scared at first, but it's been brilliant.

"I know I want to be an engineer when I leave school and study engineering at Franklin, and today has given me a different perspective and made me think about the type of engineering I want to do. It's been great."

Following the action-packed STEM conference, students had the opportunity to attend our annual Careers and Progression Evening, featuring over 90 employers, apprenticeship providers, and universities from across the country. The evening provided invaluable advice and guidance, helping students make important decisions about their future career paths.

Informative talks covered key topics, including finance, the benefits of Russell Group universities, law, and apprenticeships.

This year also saw the return of our Health Village, a dedicated space focusing on healthcare careers and opportunities within the industry.  With expert advice from leading health providers and employers, the Health Village continues to be a popular hub for students interested in careers within the health sector.

With record-breaking attendance and an unparalleled lineup of opportunities, this year's STEM event and Careers Evening have once again demonstrated Franklin’s commitment to shaping the future of young people in our region.
