We are delighted to announce that our Chair of the Corporation, Alex Baxter, will receive a Distinguished Honorary Fellowship from Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) at their upcoming graduation ceremony in late July 2024.
The Distinguished Honorary Fellowship is awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to the University and public life. Alex, whose service in the Royal Navy inspired his current roles as Chairman for the Veterans Advisory & Pensions Committee for Yorkshire and the Humber, and Armed Forces Champion for North East Lincolnshire Council, among others. He is also Managing Director of Joint Services Major Events Team, delivering all aspects of civil/military engagement and the Armed Forces Community Covenant on behalf of North East Lincolnshire Council.
As Chair of Franklin Sixth Form College, Alex volunteers much of his time to the post-16 education sector and to raising the aspirations of our students and their onward progression at universities, including BGU. Upon learning of his award, Alex commented: “I am humbled, honoured and extremely proud to learn that I have been nominated for the Distinguished Honorary Fellowship. I am also slightly embarrassed, as there are many people who deserve this award, and I am accepting this on behalf of those people, the community, Franklin Sixth Form College, the Armed Forces Team and North East Lincolnshire.”
