Our Children's Play, Learning & Development students went on a fantastic visit this week to Sheffield Hallam University.
Here is what Franklin student Holly Spencer had to say about her experiences:
"As part of the enrichment opportunities studying the BTEC Children’s Play, Learning and Development course the first and second year students both took part in a university trip to visit Sheffield Hallam University.
"During the trip we were given a true taste into the life of a university student studying an educational course, by completing activities similar to that expected in seminars. We were asked to complete an element of a module by planning out a layout for an educational setting that was suitable for all children of mixed abilities, including identifying special educational needs.
"We were given a talk on all of the courses they provide in relation to our current course, exploring all of our potential career paths, within the educational and caring sector. Some of the courses that were offered included Primary Education (3-7) with QTS, Primary Education (7-11) with QTS, secondary teaching courses and childhood studies. A stand out part of the Primary Education courses was the encouragement of international study, studying in either America, Netherlands or South Africa to develop an understanding of global education, but also to develop a specialism of your choice.
"Tours of the campus and facility were provided showing potentially where our lectures would take place, the facilities we may need to use such as the Gym and the Student Union to complete the student experience, all lead by student ambassadors. The student ambassadors were very encouraging of our choices and helped answer any of our questions about the life of a student to help us gain a full understanding of what to expect and possibly what is to come in the near future. No question was a silly question, every concern was welcomed and reassurance was provided during the questions and answer time".
A great trip was had by all. Hopefully many of the students will considering continuing on to Higher Education and careers working with children.
