Last week, our Debate Club welcomed Melanie Onn for an exciting question and answer session!
Melanie is the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Labour Candidate for the General Election, and students were very keen to ask questions.
The event was chaired by Year 2 student Isabella, and students had free reign to ask any questions they wished. Melanie had to field questions on Palestine, CCTV, her priorities if she was elected, and much more.
This type of activity at Debate Club provides students with the opportunity to engage with important issues and build the confidence to challenge in a polite and appropriate way. Asking questions in a crowded room takes poise, intelligence, articulacy and clarity; the session provided the opportunity to develop these vital skills.
The Franklin Debate Club will also be inviting Lia Nici, the Conservative MP, to Franklin very soon.
