Franklin was proud to host The Sony Music UK Debate Mate Cup regional final for North East Lincolnshire 2024, bringing together eight local primary and secondary schools for a day of spirited debate and intellectual competition.
The Debate Mate charity runs debate clubs for young people in deprived areas aimed at equipping them with communication, confidence, and teamwork skills while bolstering employability skills.
The competition showcased the remarkable talents of the region's young debaters, who demonstrated their persuasive skills in tackling challenging topics with conviction and poise.
Competing for the much-coveted titles were secondary schools Tollbar Academy, Havelock Academy and Oasis Academy Wintringham and in the primary category were St Mary's Catholic Primary Academy, Weelsby Academy, Wybers Wood Academy, Eastfield Primary Academy and Little Coates Primary Academy with Havelock Academy and Little Coates Primary taking the title and gaining a place to compete in the final round at Oxford University.
The winning schools were delighted to learn of their win and are now looking forward to battling it out later in the year.
